Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ:
On the 1st of September, Talsi Christian School started its 16th year of ministry. In 1995 the first day of school started out with a service at the Baptist church. We had 5 teachers, 3 staff members and 37 kids grades from 1-4. The school was located in 2 several hundred-year-old buildings with second hand furniture but we were excited to start a completely new concept - a Christian school in the post - Soviet atheistic society. A school that welcomes handicapped kids - the second-class people according with
a Communist doctrine.
It is hard to believe what God has allowed us to accomplish through these years! We started this school year in the same church - it was packed! There are 198 students; grades 1-12 this year, 23 teachers and 8 staff members. Last year there were 155 students in TCS. Because of the economic downturn, many people are emigrating to different countries with their children, so the public schools are experiencing reduced enrolment. The Director of the regional educational board announced that public schools should be grateful if they have 2-3 students more this year than last year. TCS has 58 new students! What a blessing! We will be able to touch more lives for Christ. Every student has parents, grandparents, siblings…what a wonderful opportunity to reach out!

This summer we had 4 Christian camps. The Orphan Camp met for the 15th summer in a row. There were about 70 orphans and kids from poor or socially handicapped families. There were about 25 youth leaders from TCS and 16 Americans - Bo, Tralisa, Leigha and Landry Sheridan, Allen Buchanek from New Beginning Baptist church, Longview, TX and Burnis, Robin, Brooke and Joshua White from WhiteOak Community Church, TX; Eric and Dakota Dennis, Barry and Jared Williams, Jennifer Padget, Clayton Hodges, Destiny Hughes from Oklahoma.
The Americans brought supplies, gifts and paid for the food. We had Bible stories, sports, campfire, prayer time; kids learned Bible verses by heart. They learned that God is love and there was LOVE felt and experienced in every minute during the camp. About 30 children gave their lives to Jesus. Praise the Lord!
The Youth Camp was fabulous! Brent and Karen Cooper brought a team: Troy Rackliff, Mike and Joetta Cummins, Bryan Sloan Kelcie and Kacie Evans, Ryan and Preston Eastwood, Kenneth Sumrall, Judi and Casey Perkins, Roland Jackson, Daniel Gandy and Paul Key from Lamar Baptist Church, Arlington, TX.
There were about 100 youth from all parts of Latvia participating in the camp. The Americans taught and led the small groups. Rev. Troy Rackliffe preached every night to the community. Every night we had a reason to celebrate along with the angels in Heaven because over 25 young men and women gave their lives to Jesus! We had our own baptismal service in a local lake!
The Basketball Camp was new this year. Joel Hill brought his family : Joel, Jennifer, Julia, Jordan and Jayme Hill and team: Brian DeShazo, Lance and Cole Crawley, Justin Hull from Ft Gibson, OK who taught local kids to play basketball and improve their basketball skills. The Americans witnessed to our kids and told the simple message of Jesus Christ. Twenty -one members of the camp came to know Christ out of the 45 Latvian kids in attendance. None of these boys and girls had heard the gospel before! They live secular lives, don’t go to church, and their parents have no concept of Christianity…I was amazed how God used Joel and his team - no deep theological teaching, just play basketball, tell about Jesus, share their testimony and encourage kids to accept Jesus… IT REALLY WORKS! :) If you want to watch video about the camp, go to YouTube, type in Latvian mission basketball team and have fun watching!
Because our facilities are handicapped accessible, we had a Handicapped Camp. It was organized by YWAM (Youth With A Mission) but we were blessed to be a part of it because handicapped are still locked out from many parts of our society.
Change comes slowly.
This summer alone we had almost 300 attend our camps with 76 new names being added to the Lamb’s Book of Life. God truly poured his blessings upon us.
We had a dentist team - Bob Davis and his daughter Carly from 1st Baptist Longview, Dr. Dan White and his two assistants did free dental work for people of Talsi community. It is great help because majority of our community can’t afford to go to dentist because of the economic conditions.
Our new school year starts September 1. On the 23rd of October, TCS will celebrate its 15th anniversary. We pray may it will be Celebration that gives glory and honor to God. The graduates, teachers and staff who have worked at TCS through the years and the leadership of 4:13 Ministries will come… We will look back at the beginning of TCS and dream of future of our ministry. The greatest blessing of these years is saved souls for Jesus Christ and restoring our Christian heritage through proclaiming Good news and serving people of our community.

The road for this 15 year journey has not been an easy one. Many times we were faced with financial obligations with no visible way to meet them. But God has always provided-through your generous contributions and faithful prayer support. There are no words to express our thankfulness to you, dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ! Some of you have been part of TCS for all 15 years, some of you joined our ministry later but because of your faithful prayers and giving we have made it so far!!! Many of our graduates from the school and the camps are bearing fruit by becoming lay leaders or committing their lives to the ministry. We encourage you to continue to be a part of our ministry! 4:13 Ministries was set up as a non-profit 501(c)(3) foundation to provide financial support for TCS and the spread of the gospel in Latvia. 4:13 now has a web - page. You may keep up with our ministry by logging in at www.413foundation.org and follow the link in the web site to the TCS web page. You can find more info about our ministry at both web sites. In an effort to provide more information to our financial and prayer supporters, we are transitioning the newsletter to an electronic version. Please send your email address to karencooper00@gmail.com. If you prefer to continue to receive a paper copy, let her know and we will accommodate your wishes.
My next trip to the States will be Oct 29th - Dec. 7th. I will be going to churches sharing my testimony and telling about the ministry of TCS. Please, continue to pray for our ministry, the 15th anniversary celebration, my mission trip and funds to keep TCS doors opened. Tuition this year is only $ 20.00 per month per child - it is as high as parents are able to afford. This will raise only about $40,000 per year. In the past we have received payments from the national and local governments based upon the number of students we are educating but it is uncertain if these subsidies will continue. The rest of finances must be provided by God. The yearly budget of TCS is about $500.000.00. It is a God’s size task… but every year He affirms the ministry and provides…
May God bless and protect you! We love you and we are so thankful to you!
With Jesus’ love -
